Summer in Victoria!

Here are the 10 things I have to do before the end of summer – hope to see you there too!

10. METCHOSIN!

Obviously. Going to Matheson Lake is a pilgrimage I do with my besties every year. We blow up a party island or a dingy and head over to the island in the middle of the lake. Bliss.

Witty’s Beach is just about the best swimming, maxing, relaxing spot in the CRD. I will arm wrestle anyone that disagrees. Check out the waterfall and giant arbutus’, stay for the gorgeous beach…

9. RENT A BOAT AT PEDDER BAY MARINA

Since my Italian speed boat is still being built (ugh, it’s taking forever) I go down to Pedder Bay and rent a boat for day of fun. Rent some downriggers, bring a radio and a cooler and you’re set for an awesome day!!

5. ICE CREAM

So what if I had a banana split for dinner the other night? That’s a healthy SUMMER DINNER.

6. ALL FUN!

They’ve closed the watersides at AllFun, but they still have the batting cages! And the Go Karts. I am a bit of a nerd that takes GoKart driving a bit seriously and woah is the friend that has to drive with me on the course!

There is also an awesome Swap n’ Shop with crazy things that you didn’t ever need, but might buy (a stoplight? An alligator lamp?)

5. WESTERN SPEEDWAY

Is it a bit trashy? Maybe. Is it fun? HECK YES! Mini-cars, Bus’ crashing into each other, lots of denim vests, a bread toss and some good ol’ LANGFORD FUN! If you haven’t been to Western Speedway – you are missing out.

4. FREE B FILM FESTIVAL!

Karate Kid, UHF, terrible but awesome movies! Bring a blanket and some buddies. All free and in Beacon Hill Park with lots of other happy Victoria summer people – always a favourite of mine!

3. SWIMMING IN THE GORGE

So swimming is a common theme amongst these favourite summer outings, and if you don’t have the time for a day trip, why not head down the the Gorge (that’s right, the GORGE) for some swimming! I’m dead serious folks, the swimming at Curtis Point is divine – warmer than the ocean, the salty water in the Gorge is just. heaven. And so close!!

3. TUBING DOWN COWICHAN

Pile up the car, head up island and spend the day floating down that gorgeous river in the sun. Bring a hat, and tie your bevies onto your tube. Voila! Instant F U N! There’s a tube rental service that will pick you up at the other end and shuttle you back to your car. Genius!

On your way back stop at the Craig Street Brewpub in Duncan for some fantastic beer: http://craigstreet.ca/

2. SOOKE POTHOLES

No summer is complete without a dip in the majestic Sooke Potholes. There’s an amazing river-side campsite as well! Close enough for a weekend getaway. Stop at the burger shack on the corner on your way home…

1. OUR INNER HARBOUR IS THE BEST!

I know it’s crawling with tourists but that’s no reason us locals can’t enjoy a stroll down the causeway for date night, rent a kayak or take a boat tour or harbour ferry along one of the most beautiful city harbours in the world.

A few of us gals had the pleasure of sailing around the inner harbour with the lovely, hilarious Len and Sue – a few naughty sailor limericks, a sunset tour of Victoria and we were in heaven. Click here for more info on the tour: http://threehoursail.com/

That’s it for my summer bucket list! Have fun out there and be safe!

Candid as always, Christina
