A funny thing happens at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve every year - my listing clients instantly want more money for their properties as we ring in a new calendar year. January and February residential sales are a battleground that lay down the precedent comparable sale prices for our spring market, usually starting in Victoria when the bulbs come out (late February).
I will be taking time off in January 2021 to support my mother during her and my family's time of bereavement and grieving as we navigate the passing of my beloved step father, Norm Watier.
Norm was one of the kindest men I have ever known, a constant in our lives who showered us with kindness, affection and generosity. He took my Mom and her kids into his world treated us as though we were always his kin. A man of quiet confidence, resolute, with a large amount of empathy and emotional intelligence. He changed the course of all of our lives for the better.
Our favourite Quebecois is the only person I've ever seen get 98% of one country of origin in his heritage DNA results (A French thoroughbred :)
Normand also spoke fluent Spanish from his years living in Columbia as a bank auditor and would frequently take our family on vacations to Mexico where he would talk his way out of hairy situations with his Columbian Spanish. We loved and revered him.
The responsibilities of being Executrix of his estate are daunting and painful but I am so very grateful to be able to have this time off to support my mother. The man audited world banks and was so very organized and orderly. It's impossible to fill his shoes, carrying on, punching in his passwords and sitting at his desk in his chair. It is the hardest thing.
I have full intention to reinstate my Broker's and Realtor's licence as Realtor and Associate Broker at JonesCo Real Estate Inc. the first week of February 2021. My decision to hang my licences for a month is NOT a result of disciplinary action with the RE Council or anything of that nature and I have listings getting ready for my return next month.
I am very grateful for my client's understanding for my need to have time off during this time.
